Alwyn Barr

Introduction

Alwyn Barr is professor and former chair of the history department at Texas Tech University.  He teaches American history courses on African American history, the Civil War, the South, and Texas history.  He has written and edited seven books, including Black Texans: A History of African Americans in Texas, 1528-1995, and Black Leaders: Texans for Their Times.  He has served as president of the Texas State Historical Association and served as an advisory editor on nineteenth century and African American history for the New Handbook of Texas.
